Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has capped an excellent start to his career at Hillsborough with a nomination for January's Championship Manager of the Month.

Irvine was installed as Wednesday manager with the Owls ensconced in the drop zone but the new gaffer has since engineered a dramatic revival courtesy of four wins from his first five in charge.

Wednesday are now five points clear of the bottom three heading into Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest - whose manager Billy Davies is also up for the award.

Scunthorpe's Nigel Adkins and Dave Jones of Cardiff City make up the quartet nominated. The winner will be announced on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday programme this weekend between 12 noon and 2.45pm.
