O'Connor scoops Player of the Month

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

Owls midfielder James O'Connor has once again been crowned the Handley Player of the Month. The midfield man scoops the January honour, just one month after winning the same award for December.

The Irishman has been one of Wednesday's most consistent players throughout the month and was influential in helping the Owls pull clear of the relegation zone with some solid performances in the engine room.

His hard-working displays have earned him the plaudits from Wednesday fans but O'Connor insists the most important thing for him is to keep moving up the table and picking up those results.

He told Wednesday Player: "It's great that I have been voted for again and it feels better this month with where we are in the league.

"We've had a great month and it's important now that we carry on building on what we've achieved in January and take it into this month.

"February is going to be just as important and we start with a very tough game against Nottingham Forest this weekend and then three big games at home so we have to keep working hard and try and move further up the table."

The full voting for the January Player of the Month was as follows:

1.James O'Connor - 30 per cent

2.Marcus Tudgay - 15 per cent

3.Luke Varney - 12 per cent
