Season ticket deadline extended

Posted on: Sat 06 Feb 2010

Sheffield Wednesday is pleased to announce that the club's first season ticket deadline has been extended by one month to allow more supporters to take advantage of the lowest renewal prices.

More than 3,000 season tickets have already been bought for the 2010/11 campaign, and the first renewal period will now end on Monday, March 8, 2010 (rather than February 8, as previously communicated).

Supporters are reminded that the club is offering an interest free Direct Debit option for season ticket purchases for the first time. This allows the club to better manage revenue streams and provides fans the ability to pay for their season ticket in more manageable chunks throughout the year. The admin fee for Direct Debit payments will also be frozen at £15 until March 8, increasing to £30 thereafter.

This new method of paying for season tickets means that fans do not have to save a large lump sum, to be spent between April and July as in previous years, and a high level of season ticket uptake ahead in the coming weeks will allow manager, Alan Irvine, an improved football budget for next season.

Sheffield Wednesday, chairman, Lee Strafford, said: "I am asking all fans to renew earlier than in the past, so we can establish Alan's budget for next season as early as possible. This will give Alan the ability to plan and implement in good time, rather than playing catch-up to other clubs, as has been the case in preceding years. In simple terms, given our average attendance, every 1,000 season tickets sold puts £400,000 into the football budget.

"It is vital for the club to have a realistic indication of season ticket sales by April so that the football budget for 2010/11 can be established. In the past, season ticket 'on sale' dates were followed almost immediately by the opening of the transfer window, which meant the majority were bought in May or June, the same time that the manager was preparing his transfer activity."

"As a club, we have made renewing as simple and effective as possible whilst continuing to communicate the key facts behind the decision for change. I am delighted that we have already sold more than 3,000 season tickets for next season. But just like Alan has said with regard to the revival of the team, it is a great start but only a start. Our aim from now on is to see Wednesdayites buy their season tickets by this time, year on year. This is one of the main reasons we introduced interest-free direct debit, which has proved extremely popular to date and will undoubtedly continue to do so."

"We have made progress with regard to potential investment in recent months and I believe there is a good chance that this can reach a positive conclusion in the near future. However, I must stress that our business plan will not change if investment is forthcoming. We will continue to operate with fan commitment to season tickets at the core of our revenue streams. We will not move away from our principals in driving the club forward; investment can accelerate our business plan but we will rely on fans' backing to build momentum with or without investment."

Supporters are reminded that interest free payment is also available over six months if you use an Owls MasterCard to purchase your season ticket. Securing your season ticket by March 8 in this way should also allow you to pay by the usual 'on sale' date for season tickets if you have been saving up for this independently.
