Clean sheet glee for Beevers

Posted on: Wed 10 Feb 2010

Three points and a clean sheet was exactly what Wednesday deserved against Blackpool after a solid team performance, according to Owls defender Mark Beevers.

Wednesday won their third consecutive game on home soil by beating Blackpool 2-0, with goals coming from midfield duo, James O'Connor and Darren Potter.

It was also Wednesday's first clean sheet in 14 matches and Beevers was naturally delighted to play his part in shutting out the Seasiders.

He told Wednesday Player after the match: "We got that clean sheet and deserved it and that's something that the whole team can be proud of as well as the back four and Granty.

"Everything that was thrown at us, we dealt with and we'll be looking to take that into our next game."

Wednesday have now won five games from seven under manager Alan Irvine but even in defeat to Nottingham Forest last Saturday, the towering defender believes that game could have ended differently.

He went on: "I think over the past few games the performances have been there, even against Forest we were pushing for a win.

"But against Blackpool we got the three points and that's exactly what we needed.

"It's always important to get that first goal because it gives you a bit of breathing space. We defended well, managed to get that second goal and kept a clean sheet which was important.

"We need to now make the most of our next few home games to give us that extra bit of breathing space in the league and that starts against Doncaster next week.
