Join Irvine flying over Hillsborough

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine will be flying across the pitch at Hillsborough this spring after pledging his support for The Children's Hospital Charity's zip slide challenge - and you could join him!

Alan was inspired to get involved after meeting patients and staff at The Children's Hospital, Sheffield, last month. Dozens of thrill seekers have already signed up for the zip slide challenge but there are plenty of places left so why not join the Owls boss and help raise money for a very worthy cause. You can register now at www.tchcharity.org.uk

Alan said: "I was really impressed when I visited the hospital and think it is a fantastic cause.

"I'm keen to do anything I can to raise money for the hospital and having done a zip slide before in the Lake District I know how much fun it is.

"I hope Wednesday fans will get involved and have a go too. It's a real thrill, a really worthy cause and for many fans it would be a unique opportunity to fly over and land on the pitch."

The zip slide challenge will take place between 9.00am and 4.30pm on Sunday, April 25, 2010 and will give participants the chance to zip slide from the back of the Kop and across the pitch to the Leppings Lane end of the ground.

Simon Athey, Senior Fundraiser at The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We are delighted that Alan has decided to support our challenge.

"Our special partnership with the club has already generated over £80,000 for the charity and it is fantastic to see that after only a short time at the club Alan has been touched by our work and wants to support our event.

"We hope his pledge of support will encourage other Owls fans to sign up, or support Alan through his just giving site."

Those wishing to join Alan for the challenge can register online at www.tchcharity.org.uk or call the charity office on 0114 2717203. A £25 registration fee reserves your place and then the charity asks that each person taking part raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship. Participants must be over the age of 18 and a full list of terms and conditions can be found on the charity's website.

If you would like to sponsor Alan you can add your donation at www.justgiving.com/AlanIrvineSWFC

All of the money raised through the challenge will go directly to The Children's Hospital Charity.
