Purse: "Confidence is high"

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Owls captain Darren Purse insists confidence is high ahead of another crucial Championship encounter away at Preston North End on Tuesday.

Wednesday head to Deepdale on the back of three solid performances against promotion-chasing sides in Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea.

With two clean sheets, four points and now out of the bottom three, Purse is looking to build on recent successes at Deepdale on Tuesday.

He told Wednesday Player: "We've had a reaction since the Reading defeat. We sat down and discussed it and have come out with three really good performances.

"Probably didn't get the result we deserved at West Brom but the other two, we deserved what we got and maybe should have come away unbeaten from all three of those matches."

On the past three performances, Purse continued: "We've been looking solid and not like conceding goals. We've had two clean sheets which is great for everybody, especially the defensive lads."

The trip to Preston promises to be a tough test after North End's weekend win over Nottingham Forest. But Purse is confident the Owls can leave Preston with three points if performance levels remain high.

He added: "We've had to face three really tough away games - West Brom, Swansea and Preston are all tough places to go but confidence is buzzing around this football club at the moment and we're looking to get a positive result from Preston.

"Hopefully that will be three points and if that happens, it will be a great platform for us to build on with two games at home to come."
