Academy urges fans to dig deep

Posted on: Wed 24 Mar 2010

The Sheffield Wednesday academy is pleased to support a collection organised by the Football League at tomorrow's Championship game against Watford.

The Football League intend erecting a Memorial to the 17th Middlesex Battalion known as the 'Footballers Battalion' who fought at The Somme in France. At present, there is no memorial dedicated to the Battalion, which included Wednesday players John Lamb, George Beech and Charlie Dexter.

The FL are in the process of trying to raise £10,000 towards the memorial and have the full backing of Owls academy manager Sean McAuley, who said: "We are always happy to support initiatives by the Football League- especially one as important as this - because of the support they give us as an academy on an ongoing basis."

Please give generously!
