Sheffield Wednesday reserves suffered a 3-0 loss against Macclesfield Town on Tuesday evening at the Look Local Stadium.

In terrible conditions at Stocksbridge, the pitch passed a late inspection before kick-off at 7pm.

After a slow start to the match, Matthew Tipton gave the visitors the lead midway through the first period and, despite a late rally towards the end of the half, the score stayed 1-0 going into the break.

Wednesday made one change at half time replacing Callum Harrison with Tom Hall, a change which saw Liam Palmer switch into centre midfield.

Despite a bright start to the second half from Wednesday, Macclesfield doubled their advantage as the Owls failed to deal with a throw-in that was scrambled over the line by the same man Tipton on the hour mark.

And the win was sealed moments later when a shot from Adam Roberts outside the 18 yard box found the back of the net after the ball was only half cleared from a Macclesfield corner.

Coach Nev Burbeary said: "The pitch was awful and it was touch and go as to whether the game would go ahead but we had a poor start to the game.

"We had enough chances in the first half to be winning at half time. We started the second half brightly but lacked the final ball and cutting edge.

"They had a giant of a centre forward who caused us problems but a positive for us was Liam Palmer and Nathan Modest who were both bright throughout the game and looked sharp.
