Owls optimistic ahead of Riverside clash

Posted on: Thu 08 Apr 2010

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough, striker Marcus Tudgay believes the Owls have what it takes to come away from the Riverside with a positive result.

Middlesbrough are unbeaten in their last seven games after Easter Monday's 2-0 victory over Plymouth and currently sit six points adrift of the play-off spots.

But Tudgay believes Wednesday can bounce back from the Easter Monday disappointment against Bristol City.

Speaking exclusively to Wednesday Player, Tudgay said: "Middlesbrough are obviously a big club and it was only last season when they were playing in the Premiership. But we've got to forget about that and focus on what we need to do, which is get three points.

"Bristol City was a great chance for us to get a win but we didn't take our chances. We've got to put that behind us now and go to Middlesbrough with our heads held high.

Wednesday created a hatful of chances against Bristol City but failed to hit the back of the net, leaving top scorer Tudgay frustrated.

He went on: "Against Bristol City I felt I could have got a goal. I had a good chance early on but put it over the bar and I've just got to move and not dwell on it.

"We've got some good quality strikers here and I think that we'll get the goals we want. We've just got to keep working hard and soon enough it will happen.

"From goalkeeper to strikers we're all working hard and I think it's just one of those things where the ball just won't go in the net for us. We're confident that it will happen soon and what better place to turn things around than Middlesbrough."

And Tudgay has reason to be optimistic. The Owls are unbeaten in their last four away outings and have proved difficult to beat in recent times.

He added: "I don't think the performances have been bad of late, we have been difficult to beat and now it's just a matter of taking our chances."
