No extra tickets for Sunday

Posted on: Wed 28 Apr 2010

Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that the club will not be able to release any extra tickets within Hillsborough stadium for this Sunday's encounter with Crystal Palace.

With the match completely sold out, the club put a strong case forward to the Safety Advisory Group, who recognised that the club could ensure a safe and effective operation to manage this area. However, South Yorkshire Police voiced serious concerns about public safety around the ground and the impact on the local community. The Safety Advisory Group has made the decision not to allow this area to be in use for the Crystal Palace match based on the Police's argument.

Regrettably, the club is therefore unable to release any additional seating for this game. The only tickets which may become available would be odd seats released by season ticket holders (through the ticket office), who are unable to attend the match.

A waiting list is in place for these tickets and this waiting list will exhaust the limited number of season ticket seats that may become available.

Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank fans for their outstanding support in making this match a sell out four days prior to the fixture.

Discounted prices were set for this game on March 23, as a gesture of appreciation to fans for their support this season, and made available for purchase. The prices were further advertised on the official website from April 3.

Crystal Palace were allocated the upper tier of the West Stand when tickets went on sale and we advised them that if we sold every seat in home areas then the lower tier would be allocated to Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

During the first days of ticket sales, no more than 200 tickets were sold per day to home fans with 15,000 home seats available. Therefore, when Crystal Palace sold out their initial allocation we released the lower tier for away supporters.

Home sales increased slightly for this fixture around the home game against Sheffield United but there was a dramatic increase after 10pm on Monday, April 26.

Unfortunately, due to demand on the website and phones, we were unable to manage all requests via these mediums. However, 1,700 tickets were sold through telephone sales on Tuesday and the stadium completely sold out shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday, April 27, with more than 7,000 tickets having been sold in a 24-hour period.
