Sheffield Wednesday are delighted to welcome The Football League's new official charity partner Marie Curie for the 2010/11 season.

The charity cares for people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses. Their services are always free of charge to patients and their families and the charity is best known for its network of Marie Curie Nurses working in the community to provide end-of-life care for patients in their own homes.

Their work is done across the UK, including each of our Football League club communities. Their research aims to find better ways of caring for terminally ill people and fund scientific teams investigating the causes of and treatments for cancer.

Last season's work with Help for Heroes was tremendously successful. The Football League together with Help for Heroes helped raise awareness and more than £300,000 through bucket collections and initiatives.

This year, the Football League hopes to do even more with Marie Curie and has set a fundraising target of £500,000.

Owls fans will be asked to raise money for the charity through a number of 'challenges', such as runs, bike rides and even a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.

To officially launch the partnership, a 'Daffodil Derby' Mascot Race will take place at Southwell Racecourse in Nottinghamshire from around 6.15pm on Tuesday 3 August 2010. Mascots from each Football League club will be invited to take part in the event.
