Coke vying to start

Posted on: Fri 13 Aug 2010

Giles Coke is vying for a starting berth against Colchester United this weekend in a midfield that has so far being subject to rotation by manager Alan Irvine in Wednesday's opening two games.

The 24-year-old has so far impressed following a summer move to S6, netting two goals in as many games.

The Owls travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to face John Ward's Colchester United, with Coke eager to be involved from the off.

"I'd like to think I'll start the game this weekend," he told Wednesday Player. "It's a very good squad from the defence all the way up to the strikers.

"There are two players in each position so it's going to be hard, but if I can continue to chip in with goals from midfield hopefully I can get a good run of games in the side.

"In the past I haven't scored as many goals as I'd like to, but I'm off to a good start and I hope to continue to do what I'm doing."

The U's were held to a 2-2 draw by Exeter City in their opening league game, but comfortably dispatched Hereford 3-0 in their midweek cup tie.

Coke added: "Colchester is going to be a tough game. They're a really strong and physical team, but if we work really hard and bring our game, we can win the game."

With our official online betting partner Coral, Giles Coke is 4/1 to score at any time this weekend.
