Wednesday cruised to a thumping 5-0 victory at Victoria Park, with Morrison adding his name to the scoresheet in the last minute, having come on as a substitute with 15 minutes remaining.

From an almost impossible angle, Morrison managed to curl his effort into the top corner to round off a superb afternoon for Wednesday.

He said: "It was one of the best goals I've scored in my career; I just thought I would curl it and was happy to see it go in.

"I have been frustrated being on the bench but I know why. The gaffer has explained it to me, I'm not 100 per cent fit but I'm slowly getting there and when I do, goals like that will be coming all the time."

It was the Owls biggest win of the season so far and one that left Wednesday top of the table with 10 points from a possible 12.

He went on: "I thought the team played well today and was one of the best performances that we have had so far. When you have the kind of start like we had, it was always going to be difficult for Hartlepool to come back."

Now Morrison aims to catch up with the rest of the squad in terms of fitness and admits he wants to be starting games rather than coming from the bench.

He explained: "If a striker tells you he's happy to be on the bench he's lying. I like my football too much to say I'm happy to be on the bench. All I can do is get fit and the gaffer has said when I do get fit, it's up to me to force my way into the team.

"I've come here to play football and that's what I want to do; play, score goals and do well for the fans and the team but I'm still building up my fitness. If I have to sit on the bench, I'll sit on the bench and when I do come on I'll try and do what I did against Hartlepool.

"We've got the Johnstone's Paint trophy game against Notts County on Wednesday and hopefully I can get some more minutes under my belt and then see where we are for Brentford."
