Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is celebrating today after winning the inaugural npower League 1 Manager of the Month award.

Irvine's side have had a fantastic start to the season, remaining unbeaten throughout August, which has seen them surge to the top of the npower League 1 table. The highlight of this fine form was the Owls' 5-0 away win at Hartlepool United.

Alan Curbishley, Chairman of the npower Manager of the Month awards panel commented: "Alan Irvine deserves special praise for the way he has galvanised Sheffield Wednesday after the disappointment of relegation last season. Alan has got the whole side performing well, with nine goals scored and just one conceded throughout August."

Irvine beat off competition from Peterborough United boss Gary Johnson, Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott and Oldham Athletic's Paul Dickov to win the new npower League 1 Manager of the Month trophy.
