Sheffield Wednesday chairman Howard Wilkinson has today issued the following statement, following a meeting between the club and The Co-operative Bank:
"Nick Parker and I have today had a very satisfactory meeting with our partners at The Co-operative Bank. Real progress has been made and while there are a number of matters that still need to be resolved, I can say that our relations with the Bank remain positive.
"I said yesterday that the events of the past few days had clearly focused minds, and I would like to reiterate that the Club, The Co-operative Bank and serious potential investors are working together to find a long term solution that will give Sheffield Wednesday the best chance of success in the future.
"Administration is something that I, The Co-operative Bank, our potential investors and most Wednesdayites do not want to see for many reasons, not least the impact that it would potentially have on local businesses. HMRC have this week, with the help of The Co-operative Bank, received a substantial payment and we shall be seeking further talks with them about an agreed plan moving forward.
"This has been a tough week for everybody who cares about our Club. As a football man, I am grateful that the week will end with an opportunity for our team to stay top of League One. Success on the pitch will have a huge impact on what happens off it, and I know that our supporters will join with me in getting behind Alan and his team this Saturday."
