Glenn crossed the Pennines to Hillsborough on a free transfer from Manchester City in July 2004 and has since become a key figure in the side.

The Irishman was voted the club's Player of the Year in 2006-07 after an outstanding term in the heart of the Owls midfield saw him claim that prize ahead of other superb performers. He also weighed in with eight goals over the campaign - his best seasonal tally for Wednesday.

Whelan topped the SWFC appearance table for the 2005-06 season after making the step up to Championship football and also captained the side. He was also a regular as Wednesday enjoyed promotion in his maiden season at S6, his first term of senior football, and scored the crucial third goal in the League One play-off final against Hartlepool United.

A creative player, Glenn operates in the centre of midfield where his pinpoint passing ability can be used to maximum effect and he also brings a combative edge to the action.

Dublin-born, he developed in the City youth ranks prior to turning professional with the Blues, making his senior debut in UEFA Cup action before a loan stint at Bury.
