Richard is the longest-serving member of the Owls squad having signed professionally in 2003 after developing in the Hillsborough youth system.
He recovered from a lengthy lay-off caused by groin problems to rack up his 100th SWFC appearance during the back end of the 2006/07 campaign. The boyhood Wednesdayite has excellent tackling ability, aerial prowess and quick recovery skills that have become hallmarks of his game.
The Yorkshireman broke into the Wednesday senior set-up towards the end of the 2002/03 term, marking his arrival with a goal on his full debut at Burnley. Wood - who finished last season as first team captain - made such an impression in his formative years that the Owls handed him a two-year deal before he had completed the second year of his Academy scholarship.
