Wednesday posted an impressive point at promotion favourites Norwich after a balanced affair at Carrow Road.

Both sides had chances to break the deadlock bur this live Sky TV clash saw the defences take the plaudits and a draw was probably the right result.

A warm afternoon in Norfolk saw Norwich start on the front foot, with the influential figure of Cameron Jerome a lively threat for the hosts.

Jerome fired a warning shot on the 15-minute mark, heading over from a set piece but the Owls hit back through Almen Abdi, whose long ranger was well blocked by Ryan Bennett.



Wednesday grew into the game as Barry Bannan began to take a grip in the engine room and Kieran Lee was inches away from connecting to a deep cross by the Scot.

But the Owls almost gave Norwich an inadvertent lift when Sam Hutchinson deflected towards his own goal and was mightily relieved when the ball skimmed the top side of the crossbar.

Wednesday were under the cosh in the latter part of the first half and Steven Naismith might have done better with a mishit angled drive.



The Canaries were dealt a blow for the start of the second half when England international goalkeeper John Ruddy failed to emerge – new recruit Michael McGovern stepped up for his debut.

And the Northern Ireland custodian was tested on the hour when Daniel Pudil unleashed from distance but the shot-stopper saved comfortably.

McGovern, though, had to delve into the top drawer to deny Bannan following a neat three-man move.

The busy Canaries keeper stopped a Ross Wallace drive from distance before Lucas Joao went bursting in on goal only to be thwarted at the last, indicative of an impressive second half display that helped the Owls to a hard-earned point.
