Report: Wednesday 0-2 Leeds

20 August 2016

Wednesday 0-2 Leeds
                      Antonsson 63
                      Wood 85

-----------------------------------------

Leeds left Hillsborough with a maximum haul with second half goals from Marcus Antonsson and Chris Wood deciding this Yorkshire derby.

A game of few chances saw the Swede finish the visitors’ best opportunities after Fernando Forestieri twice went close for the Owls in a relatively even opening period.

But the Whites finished on top, improving markedly in the second half to take the points back up the M1.

Wednesday dominated the early exchanges and could have been two goals to the good inside 15 minutes.

Forestieri created two similar chances, first bursting through the middle but shooting wide before being thwarted on the line by Liam Cooper after rounding keeper Rob Green.

Leeds hit back, though, and Wood went close with a powerful header from Cooper’s cross.

Keiren Westwood came to the rescue moments later to deny Hadi Sacko and Antonsson fired narrowly wide from distance.

Five minutes before the break, the Owls went closer still when Almen Abdi delivered a vicious set piece that skimmed the top of the crossbar with Green beaten.

Leeds countered minutes into the second half, with Wood denied by former Whites defender Tom Lees but the visitors broke the deadlock just past the hour.

Wood broke down the right and chipped to the far post where Antonsson stooped to head home.

Wednesday responded with substitute Gary Hooper forcing a crucial save from Green before Leeds put the game out of reach five minutes from time.

Kemar Roofe found space down the left and his accurate feed was cleverly glanced in by Wood.

Wednesday: Westwood, Hunt (Buckley 72), Lees, Hutchinson, Pudil, Wallace (Jones 63), Bannan, Lee, Abdi (Hooper 46), Fletcher, Forestieri
