Honours are even at the half time stage of the Championship play-off semi final between Wednesday and Huddersfield following a 0-0 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium.

A cagey affair unfolded in West Yorkshire with Town asking more of the questions as the home side.

The answer was by and large a patient Owls performance that frustrated the Terriers, who took early control of the contest, enjoying the lion’s share of possession but without threatening any real danger until midway through the first half.

Rajiv Van La Parra linked up well with Chris Lowe and the ball fell kindly to Izzy Brown but the Chelsea loanee mishit his shot that clipped the top of the crossbar.



The hosts continued to press and forced the Owls on the back foot only for their impressive approach play to belie the end product.

For their part, Wednesday forged counter attacks but with little to test Joel Coleman between the Town sticks.

The second half needed a spark and Nahki Wells almost provided it ten minutes in with an audacious chip from range that Keiren Westwood tipped to safety.

The Owls responded with their first real effort as Adam Reach advanced and fired a curling drive that just evaded the far post.



Huddersfield hit back with Tommy Smith taking a fine ball from Aaron Mooy into his stride but ballooning over before Westwood denied Wells from six yards.

Barry Bannan let fly from 25 yards ten minutes from time, which proved the last action of note and the White Rose rivals go into the return leg at Hillsborough on Wednesday all square.
