This weekend’s clash with Ipswich at Hillsborough marks the start of a hectic bout of fixtures for the Owls.

Darren Moore’s side are set to play nine games between now and the end of February, meaning a relentless schedule of weekend/midweek fixtures on the horizon.

Ipswich are one of the form sides in the division with four wins from their last five games under new boss Kieran McKenna.

As things stand heading into the weekend clash, the Tractor Boys are one place (8th) and one point ahead of the Owls (9th), though Wednesday have two games in hand.

In terms of home form, the Owls have tasted defeat only once this season at Hillsborough – the fewest of any side in League One. Five of our next six fixtures take place in S6.

Wednesday: New recruits Jordan Storey, Tyreece John-Jules and Harlee Dean could make their debuts at Hillsborough.

Josh Windass could be in contention for his first start since late November.

Dominic Iorfa and Chey Dunkley remain sidelined.

Olamide Shodipo is a long-term absentee for the Owls.

Ipswich: Defender Kane Vincent-Young will miss out through suspension after being shown a late red card on Tuesday night in their 2-0 win away at Wimbledon.

Full back Dominic Thompson is eligible to feature after joining the Portman Road side on loan from Brentford until the end of the season.

Report: Wednesday 1-0 Ipswich

Marvin Johnson’s maiden league goal for Wednesday was enough to secure all three points against Ipswich at Hillsborough.

Johnson struck early as the Owls dominated the first half. Town rallied in spells after the break but overall the hosts were more than good value for victory.

Harlee Dean and Jordan Storey were handed starting shirts and fellow new recruit Tyreece John-Jules came off the bench as Darren Moore shuffled his pack, the ace of which was Johnson on the day.

The wideman gave Wednesday the perfect start and finish, scoring what proved the decisive goal of the game eight minutes in. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing sent a delicious cross to the back post where Johnson, sprinting in from deep, stretched to plant a volley across Christian Walton.

Wednesday might have profited from their next attack when Florian Kamberi had his pocket picked at the last by George Edmundson after darting on to Massimo Luongo’s through-ball.

Josh Windass dragged a snapshot wide and Town were on the back foot. The travelling fans from Suffolk had to wait until the half-hour mark before their side threatened, Bersant Celina advancing down the middle but firing high over the bar.

The game reverted to type as half time loomed and Ipswich were fortunate to head down the tunnel only one down as Mendez-Laing blasted wide from 12 yards with the goal at his mercy.

Walton kept out Kamberi and Sam Hutchinson just before the whistle and the opening period ended with Wednesday well in command.

The early throes of the second half were more balanced but still the first chance went the way of Wednesday. Windass wriggled free of his marker down the right of the area, Walton could only parry the sweet shot and was relieved to see Barry Bannan’s reflex header sail over.

Johnson then came close to doubling his tally, drilling past Walton but also the post after good work from Kamberi and Windass.

The Ipswich keeper excelled with 20 minutes to go, diving athletically to tip Bannan’s 20-yard curler past the upright.

Moments later Town broke upfield and a perfectly-timed block from Storey prevented Sone Aluko’s first touch being key as the substitute pulled the trigger in the box.

And that was as good as it got for the visitors as the Owls comfortably saw the game out to return to winning ways.
