Michael Smith opened his SWFC account from the penalty spot as Wednesday continued pre-season with a 2-0 win at Harrogate Town.
Smith added to Josh Windass’ stunning opener as a one-sided first half saw the Owls take the plaudits.
With the new campaign moving closer on the horizon, there was a greater energy around the friendly contest.
Reece James almost had a debut goal inside three minutes after bursting upfield and was inches away from a low Smith feed.
Windass brushed the side-netting moments later before going one better on eight minutes, firing an unstoppable curling hit right into the top corner.
The Owls settled into a nice rhythm, playing neat passing football, and Harrogate had their moments too in a high energy first half that saw the lead doubled just past the half-hour.
Kyle Ferguson tripped Dennis Adeniran in the box, the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Smith stepped up to fire his first goal in Wednesday colours.
As expected, it was all change for the Owls after the interval as every position was switched other than David Stockdale between the sticks.
Harrogate too made similar changes and played more on the front foot, although Wednesday never looked in real danger of allowing a breakthrough.
Piers Charles gained another valuable outing as the young Owl replaced Stockdale but had little to do in the closing stages as Wednesday closed the game down and came away with the win.
First half: Stockdale, Hunt (J), Iorfa, Famewo, Galvin, Glover, James, Bannan, Adeniran, Windass, Smith
Second half: Stockdale (Charles 76), Palmer, Ihekwe, Heneghan, Brown, Johnson, Hunt (A), Dele-Bashiru, Byers, Paterson (Davidson 80), Sow
