Promotion-chasing Leeds halted Wednesday’s four-game winning run and extended their own impressive form to 11 league victories in 12.
Patrick Bamford’s goal moments before half time laid the foundation, finished by Wilfried Gnonto after the interval.
The Owls battled gamely but struggled to penetrate the meanest defence in the Championship.
Djeidi Gassama went closest but the Whites displayed the cutting edge that takes them a step closer to the Premier League.
A cagey start saw no action of note in either box until the 17th minute when Illan Meslier came to the visitors’ rescue.
Marvin Johnson’s corner caused problems and Meslier spread himself well to keep out Gassama from close quarters.
At the other end, Ethan Ampadu dropped a long ball over the top for Georginio Rutter to chase - the Frenchman stole a march on goal but the outrushing James Beadle got a strong hand to the shot and Akin Famewo cleared Rutter’s second attempt to safety.
The contest seemed to be heading for a first half stalemate until Leeds struck right on the stroke of the break.
Junior Firpo delivered a telling cross to the back stick, where Bamford was on hand to slot past Beadle.
The breakthrough gave Wednesday a mountainous second half task and Leeds were in no mood to help out.
Clearly buoyed, the Whites poured forward in numbers – twice Rutter was foiled, first by Beadle at his near post then by Bambo Diaby’s well-timed block.
Rutter, though, got the assist as Leeds doubled the advantage on 57 minutes.
Gnonto raced down the right side of the area, the pass was perfect, and the Italian buried emphatically past Beadle.
The Owls keeper made a superb save to deny Crysencio Summerville straight after the restart as Leeds looked to put the game to bed.
But Wednesday countered seeking a route back, which almost arrived when Meslier lost grip on a Gassama long-ranger and with the ball squirming goalwards, Ampadu had to hoof off the line.
That was as good as it got for the Owls, who try as they might could not fashion a way through and Leeds emerged comfortably triumphant.
Wednesday: Beadle, Valentin (Iorfa 65), Bernard, B Diaby (Smith 65), Famewo, Johnson, Palmer (Vaulks 65), Bannan, Musaba (Wilks 84), Gassama, Ugbo (Cadamarteri 84)
