The Owls’ survival hopes were dented by Swansea as the Welsh side claimed a point at Hillsborough.

Wednesday were on course for a maiden leap from the bottom three when Bailey Cadamarteri scored a crucial first half goal.

But Swans substitute Jamal Lowe netted late in the second period to deny the hosts a vital victory.

The Owls pressed early - Anthony Musaba nodded a near post chance wide – before Swansea seized control of the ball.

Przremystav Placheta warmed the gloves of James Beadle with an angled drive but for all their possession, damage was limited to a Wednesday side missing the flair of Barry Bannan and Ian Poveda.

But Wednesday wrested back the impetus and after Will Vaulks dragged Iké Ugbo’s drag-back past the post, Cadamarteri struck four minutes before the break.

With dip and curl, Vaulks’ set piece was nodded on by Bambo Diaby and Cadamarteri pounced to break the deadlock.

That set the scene for a tense second half, the start of which Swansea dominated.

Beadle needed every inch of his 6’ 5” frame to tip Jamie Paterson’s dipping hit over the top before Nathan Wood was presented with a free header that the centre-back spurned.

Danny Röhl threw on Djeidi Gassama and the Frenchman was inches away from Marvin Johnson’s deep cross.

Gassama then forced a fine save from Carl Rushworth as Wednesday grew in confidence.

Skipper Bannan came on from the bench and his introduction lifted the home crowd, who were a lick of paint away from celebrating a second goal.

Anthony Musaba took a sweeping ball from Vaulks down the left, squared for Ugbo, who powered a fierce shot against the crossbar.

But just as the Owls seemed favourites to strike next, the Swans levelled.

Josh Tyman’s corner was met by Harry Darling, whose header was going wide, but Lowe intervened to stab home from close range.

Wednesday asked all the questions in the closing stages, peppering the Swans’ box.

Pol Valentin skewed a clear opening wide, Rushworth twice denied Johnson, and despite the one-way traffic up to the final whistle, Swansea held out for a point.
