The Owls Under-18s suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday at Burnley.
Heading into the league clash in fine form, the Owls soon settled into the game at the Clarets’ Barnfield Training Centre and went ahead inside the first ten minutes.
Ben Hughes collected possession inside the 18-yard box before arrowing an unstoppable drive into the far corner.
But the Clarets responded five minutes later as striker Jordan Cropper bagged the first of an impressive treble to level the game.
Wednesday were soon left with an uphill battle to climb as Cropper scored two quickfire goals to complete his hat-trick in the space of 17 minutes.
Just past the hour mark, Liam Shaw looked to have pulled a goal back with a stunning volley into the top corner but the flag was raised, with Shaw adjudged to have strayed into an offside position.
A frustrating result for the Under-18s, who rallied after the break but without reward.
Next-up for Ben Wilkinson’s side is a trip to Crewe on Saturday.
Owls: Brazinskas, Dawodu, West (Hammoud 89), Brennan, Reaney, Hunt, Shaw, Waldock (Grant 84), Hughes, Benedetti, Borukov (Swaine 79)
