U18s report: Bolton 3-1 Wednesday

16 November 2019

Sheffield Wednesday Under-18s suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat on Saturday morning away at league strugglers Bolton.

Wednesday went into the game unbeaten in the previous two after good performances against Leeds in the 0-0 draw at Middlewood Road and the impressive 2-1 win away at Burnley.

But the Owls found the going tough against Wanderers and were behind from the seventh minute, when an early corner was converted from close range.

The visitors regrouped and drew level at the Eddie Davies Football Academy in the 34th minute after a neat move and finish from Charles Hagan.

L’Varn Brandy intercepted a loose pass and threaded through for Hagan, who timed his run and finished from a narrow angle.

But a Bolton set piece in first half stoppage time undid the Owls’ good work and a late counter attack in the second half made sure of the points for Wanderers.

Hagan turned well on the edge of the box and forced the save, but from there the hosts broke upfield to score their third of the game in the 83rd minute to end hopes of an Owls comeback.

Wednesday are back on their travels next Saturday away at Birmingham.

Owls: Jackson, Curtis (Thompson 46), Ellery, Kenyon, Glaves (Glover 46), Cox, Hall, Farmer, Hagan, Brandy, Aguas (Bonnington 68)
