U18 report: Owls stun the Tractor Boys

21 March 2021

Bailey Cadamarteri netted a hat-trick on Saturday as the Owls Under-18s cruised to a 5-1 win away at Ipswich.

There were also goals for Alex Bonnington and Basile Zottos as our academy side stunned the Tractor Boys in Suffolk.

Ipswich went into the game in outstanding form and top of the U18 Professional Development League South but were handed their first defeat since October by the Wednesday youngsters.

Bonnington opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing first time from Zottos’ header across goal.

A close-fought game unfolded before a flurry of goals came in the final 20 minutes – including a treble for Cadamarteri.

The striker’s first arrived on 70 minutes and it was Zottos again who was the provider after darting down the line before picking out Cadamarteri to finish inside the six-yard box.

Matt Ward pulled a goal back for the hosts 15 minutes from time but Wednesday quickly regrouped to put the game beyond any doubt.

The reply was instant as Wednesday went forward straight from kick-off and it was the combination of Zottos and Cadamarteri again that proved fruitful.

Zottos’ pace and trickery was too much for Ipswich to handle, the cutback was accurate and Cadamarteri remained composed in the box to make it 3-1.

Having already registered three assists, Zottos more than deserved his goal six minutes from time after driving past the Tractor Boys’ backline and firing into the far corner.

And with game now wrapped up, Cadamarteri made sure it was one he would remember by bagging his hat-trick and the match ball one minute into time added on.

A Zotttos free kick found Murtadha Al-Jahadhmy in the box, who beat his marker before picking out Cadamarteri to slot home from close range.

Owls: Hare, Curtis, Glaves, Sesay, Zottos, Glover (Asfha 88), Trueman, Aguas (Al-Jahadhmy 85), Davidson (Kilheeney 65), Bonnington (c), Cadamarteri
