U18 report: Wigan 0-2 Owls

7 March 2022

The Owls Under-18s made it back-to-back league wins on Saturday at Wigan.

Josh Ashman and Leojo Davidson were on target for Andy Holdsworth’s side as Wednesday moved up to second in the U18 Professional Development League.

Wednesday broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when Ashman rose high from Davidson’s delivery to plant an unstoppable header into the top corner.

Then ten minutes from time, Davidson made it 0-2 from the penalty spot.

Murtadha Al-Jahadhmy jinked his way into the box, went down under a challenge from behind and the referee pointed to the spot.

Davidson stepped up from 12 yards to convert straight down the middle and wrap up the points for the visitors.

The Owls are now one point behind league leaders Coventry with a game in hand over the Sky Blues which sets up an interesting top of the table clash next time out.

Wednesday face Coventry behind closed doors at the Owls’ training complex on Saturday week (19 March), 11.30am kick-off.

Owls: Hall, Fusire, Ashman, Flannery, Sesay, Kilheeney, Asfha, Holland (Maltby 75), Trialist (Al-Jahadhmy 65), Cadamarteri, Davidson (Phuthi 80)
