The Owls Under-23s went down 3-0 to Nottingham Forest at Middlewood Road on Monday afternoon.
The visitors were good value for the points as they created and converted the better of the chances on a blustery afternoon in S6.
Forest took the lead on 23 minutes, with Jordan Gabriel applying the finishing touch to a swift passing move.
Sean Clare twice went close for the Owls before the break but the Reds struck their second three minutes into the second half when Toby Edser executed a delightful free kick from range.
Wednesday saw more of the ball as they tried to haul back the deficit but any lingering hopes were extinguished three minutes from time as Lewis Walters scored from eight yards to make the game safe.
