The Owls’ Under-23s suffered a comprehensive defeat against an experienced Birmingham side that catapulted to the top of the PDL North table.
The hosts triumphed 4-0 on a bleak afternoon for Wednesday, who finished the game with ten men having made all their substitutions before losing Isaac Rice to injury.
Josh Martin opened the scoring for Birmingham, heading home from an accurate corner midway through the opening period.
Then Kyle Hurst doubled the lead with a close range finish in first half stoppage time to give the Owls an uphill battle after the break.
And when Olly McCoy made it 3-0, calmly ending a swift counter on 64 minutes, it was all but over for Wednesday.
Tommy Anderson completed the scoring with five minutes to go following a knock to Rice and the Owls travelled back from the Midlands well beaten by the Blues.
Wednesday: McCulloch, Dawodu (Clarke 75), Hughes, Shaw, O’Grady, Rice, Preston, Waldock (Grant 65), Stobbs, Kirby, Boyd (Borukov 46)
