23s report: Leeds 2-2 Owls

17 September 2018

The Owls Under-23s drew 2-2 with Leeds at Thorp Arch on Monday afternoon.

The fixture saw Gary Hooper step up his recovery, with the striker storing a further 66 minutes under the belt.

The returning frontman has now featured twice for the Under-23s in seven days, also playing 45 minutes last week in the clash with Colchester at Hillsborough.

There was also a 90-minute outing for George Boyd, who was on target in the PDL2 clash.

The deadlock was broken inside the opening three minutes when Owls goalkeeper Cameron McCulloch miscontrolled inside the six-yard box and saw the ball roll over the goalline.

But Wednesday were back level 20 minutes into the contest thanks to another own goal, this time from Leeds full back Leif Davis.

Boyd forced the save from Jamal Blackman and Joe West’s resulting corner was inadvertently sliced high into the net by Davis.

On the stroke of half time Wednesday edged in front as Hooper fed through for Boyd, following good work from Liam Waldock, and the former Burnley man lashed home into the bottom corner.

Leeds’ response after the break was swift as Jack Clarke stooped low to head past McCulloch moments after the Owls’ keeper had saved from Hugo Diaz.

The Owls Under-23s are next in action on Friday evening, facing Sheffield United at Hillsborough.

Kick-off is at 7.00pm and supporters are welcome to attend the game. Admission is free for Season Ticket holders, £3 Adults and £2 Concessions.

Owls: McCulloch, Dawodu, West, J.Lee, O’Grady, Brennan (Hammoud 78), Stobbs, Waldock, Hooper (Grant 66), Boyd, Lonchar (O’Brien 56)
