Some 126 years after the Owls played Sheffield FC in the Sheffield Hallamshire County FA Cup, an Under-23s SWFC XI travelled to meet the hosts in a friendly encounter on Tuesday night.
The contest was played out at Sheffield FC’s Tuffnell’s Home of Football Stadium and finished all square at 1-1.
Wednesday ran out 8-1 winners all those years ago but this was a far more even affair with few chances and two late goals.
Jordan Walshaw bundled the ball home from close range following a goalmouth scramble on 81 minutes to make Sheffield FC favourites for victory.
But the Owls levelled in stoppage time as Basile Zottos embarked on a dazzling run down the right, played a clever give and go with Alex Bonnington and squared for substitute Murtadha Al-Jahadhmy to stroke home.
Owls: Render, Trialist, Aguas (Dawodu 46), Trialist, Agbontohoma (Sesay 46), Thompson (Davidson 57), Zottos, Glover, Bonnington, Trueman (Ashfa 57), Trialist (Al-Jahadhmy 46)
