The Owls Under-21s went down 2-0 by Hull at Bracken Moor on Friday afternoon.

Goals either side of half time from Matty Jacob and Jim Simms sealed three points for the Tigers despite Wednesday creating opportunities to take something from the game.

Leojo Davidson’s first half penalty miss was just one of several chances created by Neil Thompson’s side, but it wasn’t the Owls’ day in front of goal and Hull left Stocksbridge as victors.  

Wednesday were forced into an early change when Murtadha Al-Jahadhmy went to ground on the right flank, with the forward stretchered off and replaced by Devlan Moses.

Hull full back Tom Nixon turned inside from the right but his curling shot was tipped over by Northern Ireland youth international Pierce Charles.

The Tigers took the lead on 24 minutes when a deep free kick found Hull skipper Jacob at the far post, and the defender finished with some aplomb into the opposite top corner.

Davidson forced Harry Fisk into a smart save when the forward struck from 25 yards, resulting in Wednesday winning a corner.

From the resulting set piece, the ball landed to Bailey Cadamarteri who guided a header to the back post only to see it nodded off the line by goalscorer Jacob.

The Owls were enjoying an attacking spell and had a golden opportunity to restore parity when Rio Shipston was tripped in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Davidson stepped up to take the penalty but his side-footed strike hit the post and bounced to safety.

Despite the setback, Wednesday continued to apply pressure and Fuad Sesay hit wide from the edge of the box after a clever dummy by Cadamarteri.

Thompson’s side started the second half with the same attacking intent they showed in the first and Cadamarteri’s left-footed shot was caught by Fisk.

Sesay skillfully beat his marker and sent Moses through on the left of the area but his shot was parried wide for a corner.

And the visitors took advantage of Wednesday’s profligacy, doubling their lead on 74 minutes.

A powerful low ball across the box found Josh Simms who tapped in from close range.

Sesay blasted over from 25 yards out before Sean Fusire rattled the Hull crossbar as Wednesday turned the screw in the closing stages.

But Hull saw the result out to leave the Owls frustrated after a game where only the final touch was missing.
