The Owls Under-21s were beaten 3-1 by Peterborough at Hillsborough on Monday afternoon.
A brace from Joe Taylor and a Kellan Hickinson strike cancelled out Bobby Dunn’s free-kick equaliser to seal three points for Posh in the lunchtime kick-off.
The visitors took the lead five minutes in when Taylor was played through by Will van Lier and the forward struck clinically into the bottom corner.
Leojo Davidson then stung the hands of William Blackmore with a rasping shot from the right before Wednesday found a breakthrough.
The Owls won a free-kick on the edge of the Posh area, from which Dunn’s shot deflected into the back of Blackmore’s net to restore parity.
But the score wasn’t level for long as the away side retook the lead before half time through Hickinson.
A Wednesday clearance to the edge of the area fell invitingly for the midfielder who blasted beyond Luke Jackson.
After the break, Andrew Oluwabori fired just wide of the Owls’ far post before the Wednesday trialist had a half volley from range caught by Blackmore.
Peterborough missed two quickfire chances to add a third, identical crosses fell to Taylor but the forward nodded wide of either post.
Dunn almost put the Owls level directly from a corner, but his curling cross pinged against the crossbar before Peterborough wrapped up the points with a third goal.
Kai Corbett fired in a low set piece to the front post and Taylor was on hand to poke the ball beyond Jackson.
Wednesday: Jackson, Sesay, Agbontohoma, Adetoro, Aguas, Trialist (Shipston 70), Dunn, Glover, Davidson (Phuthi 65), Trialist, Cadamarteri
