Impressive Owls

28 August 2012

Dave Jones hailed another impressive S6 display as the Owls progressed into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

A Gary Madine penalty was enough to see Wednesday through against Premier League Fulham as the hosts posted their third win in as many games at Hillsborough inside a week.

And Jones was pleased with performances all over the field, particularly given the standard of the opposition.

He said: “I couldn’t fault any of them. They’ve put in a good performance against a very good team and a big club in Fulham.

“We set traps for them and we made our move and profited. So credit our lads and my coaching staff because they have done a lot of hard work on Fulham and it has paid off.

“The players have to take the credit because they listen to what we tell them and they respond by doing the right things.

“We are doing the right things, the fitness programme is paying off and there is competition all over the field.

“The way they saw the game out was totally professional, we were well disciplined and they deserve everything they get.

“But we put this one to bed now and we concentrate on the trip to Crystal Palace in the league on Saturday.”

Jones also gave his thoughts on the twin departures of David Prutton and Diogo Amado when he addressed the media after the game.

Prutton joined League 1 Scunthorpe on loan today while Amado signed for Portugese outfit Estoril Praia Futebol.

Jones explained: “David was up for grabs and he has gone to Scunthorpe so it’s a chance for him to get some games under the belt.

“With Diogo, he was really homesick, he has personal problems over in Portugal and when that situation happens, there’s no sense in holding on to a player.

“He’s a smashing lad but he couldn’t settle here. We tried everything to change that but it wasn’t happening so the sensible thing was to let him go and we wish him all the best.”
