Jones on Antonio

7 August 2012

Dave Jones has spoken of his delight at having secured the signature of Michail Antonio from Premiership side Reading.

The flying winger inked a four-year contract at Hillsborough on Monday, thus successfully concluding the Owls’ summer-long pursuit.

And Jones says that patience was key in getting his man.

He told swfc.co.uk: “We had to wait a while to get this one done and had to show a lot of patience.

“The boy made it obvious he wanted to come to us but there were a few hurdles to clear and I’m delighted he is now our player.

“A lot of hard work has gone into this one and I’m pleased for everyone involved.”

Antonio, of course, played a key role in helping Wednesday to promotion last season and Jones believes that the bedding-in period already stored can only serve as a benefit.

He added: “He knows the club, he knows the area, and he won’t be required to settle in because of when he was here on loan. That is a big bonus and will work in our favour.

“I have every confidence in him and so does everybody else. I think people forget that he is still a prospect and that’s because of the impact he had here last season.

“He’s a very talented boy, there is no doubt about that, but he will have competition for a shirt and I’m sure that is the way he would like it.”
