The Owls face Oldham in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Monday at Boundary Park and it’s a place Wednesday defender Kieran Lee knows well.

The 24-year-old full back spent four years with the Latics before making the summer switch to Hillsborough and Lee is looking forward to a quicker than expected return to his former employers.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I had four really good years at Oldham and enjoyed my time there.

“When I saw the draw I was very happy with it and it will be good to go back and see my old team mates.

“I owe a lot to Oldham for all they did for me but I feel the time was right to leave and move on to a bigger challenge and I have that with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.”

Despite the Owls going into the game as favourites to progress into the next round, Lee believes the League 1 side will provide Wednesday with a difficult test.

He added: "I’ve no doubt it will be a tough game, I’ve seen Oldham play in pre-season and they have looked strong.

“But we believe we can go to Boundary Park and win. The lads are ready for this game, we all feel refreshed and can’t wait to get the season underway.”
