Owls sign Taylor

31 August 2012

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Martin Taylor from Watford for an undisclosed fee.

The central defender has signed a two-year deal with the Owls.

The towering stopper began his career with Blackburn Rovers, where he signed as a schoolboy at the age of 17, and went on to make 124 appearances for the Ewood Park side.

Between loan stints at Darlington and Stockport, Taylor went on to join then Premier League outfit Birmingham City, who paid £1.25m for his signature.

The 32-year-old stayed at St Andrews for six years and played 117 times for the Blues, whilst also featuring on loan for Norwich City.

Championship side Watford signed Taylor on a free transfer in January 2010 and the centre half posted 95 appearances for the Hornets, scoring ten goals.

Taylor has been allocated shirt number five at Hillsborough.
