Dave Jones reflected on the Owls’ 3-2 victory over Birmingham and insists the Owls are still a work in progress.
An exciting encounter at Hillsborough on Tuesday ended with Wednesday winning by the odd goal in five and Jones, although pleased with the four-point haul so far from the new season, says there is plenty more to come.
He said: “I know I keep using the phrase but we really are a work in progress.
“There’s a lot of players out there who haven’t played in the Championship before and it’s going to take some time to fully find their feet.
“We were superb in the first half but I was disappointed that we didn’t turn them in the first five minutes of the second half.
“But listen, we have played two established Championship sides in Derby and Birmingham and come away with four points so I am happy with the start.
“The fans have gone away happy and as I said at the weekend, they deserve it because they have been through so much hurt at this club over the last 15 or 20 years.”
Spanish star Rodri took his S6 bow and duly opened his account against the Blues, firing an impressive first half goal to give the Owls a 2-0 half time advantage.
And Jones was full of praise for the Barcelona loanee and says he is excited by the prospect of what could follow:
“He’s only a baby in football terms so we don’t want to get carried away but he’s a terrific prospect who will only get better.
“He’s very sure of himself, he has that swagger and that arrogance and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a good trait to have.
“He has that turn the Europeans have, he gets the ball, turns and moves forward whereas players over here have a tendency to go backwards.
“We don’t want to raise the expectation but he’s a talented player and we are glad to have him here.
“I was asked by a Premiership club how we managed to get him out of Barcelona and that shows the quality he has.
“He’s loving every minute so far, we have an option to buy him so we will see how he settles here and take it from there.”
