Dave Jones took satisfaction from a vastly improved performance at Cardiff on Sunday but was ultimately disappointed with the narrow defeat.

The Owls went down 1-0 to the newly installed league leaders despite turning in a spirited and dogged display in the Welsh capital.
And Jones rued that the only lapse in concentration cost his side the game:

He said: “We battled brilliantly and gave everything but you have to concentrate throughout the whole of the game and it was that one dip that cost us.

“We have run the ball out of defence, that led to the ball that came back out and we didn’t get out quickly enough to close the ball down.

“That’s what happens in this division, you switch off and you get punished.

“But listen, I am not going to hammer them, because they worked their socks off throughout the game against a good side.

“Cardiff have won every game at home this season but we could have come away with the points.

“We had one really good chance when the game was at 0-0 but sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t.”

Jones was back at the Cardiff City Stadium for the first time since leaving the Bluebirds 18 months ago but said now is the time to look forward, not back.

He added: “My time is done there. I am with Sheffield Wednesday now and that is where my complete focus is.

“I did a lot for Cardiff City and now I want to do the same for Sheffield Wednesday.

“When I came here, we went 20-odd games unbeaten and I was the greatest manager around.

“Now we have lost some games and I am the worst. That’s the way that football is.

“We have to look forward and we have some massive games coming up, starting with Bristol City at Hillsborough on Saturday.”
