Spirit stays high

14 December 2012

Dave Jones says spirits remain high in the Owls camp going into the crunch Championship clash with local rivals Barnsley on Saturday.

Both teams are ensconced in the bottom three and in real need of a morale boosting victory in a bid climb out of the relegation zone.

For their part, Wednesday are desperate for the points and the manager insists that the camaraderie remains as strong as ever.

He said: “It’s the first thing that people say on a run like we have been on but I can assure everyone that the spirit and everything else is first class.

“You can see that from the last two performances, there is no problem. It would stand out a mile if that wasn’t the case.

“The players have looked sharp in training, they are listening to what we are saying and they are going about their jobs the right way.

“Everyone in this football club is pulling in the same direction and that’s the way it has to be.

“We are all in this together – and together is the key word.”

Jones is expecting a frantic derby contest whilst also emphasising that every game in which the Owls play is of a huge nature.

He added: “Is this a massive game? Yes – but they all are at a club like Sheffield Wednesday.

“We will approach this game in the right manner and I’m sure Barnsley will too.

“Both teams are desperate for the points and the pace will be fast, it will be frantic and the live TV cameras are there for added spice.

“All the ingredients are there and we now need to start turning the performances into results.”
