Semedo enjoying pre-season workout

Midfield man Jose Semedo is enjoying life in his homeland of Portugal – while counting down the days to the big Championship kick-off on 18 August back in England.

The Owls are approaching the middle section of their week-long training camp across Europe and Portugese native Semedo is more familiar than most in Wednesday’s temporary surroundings.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It is so nice to be back in Portugal. The food, to listen to Portugese, the hotel facility, the warm weather – it’s all fantastic.

“But the most important thing is that we are here to work very hard and build up our fitness, which is going really well.

“It is very hard work training in this kind of heat but there are a lot of benefits to this kind of training.

“We are only a few weeks away from the start of the new season, we are getting fitter and stronger and I am very excited about playing for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.”

Prior to the curtain raiser against Derby, the Owls have a pre-season game itinerary that begins with a friendly contest on Sunday against Portugese giants Sporting Lisbon – the club at which Semedo spent his formative years.

He added: “It will be good for me and I am looking forward to seeing the manager because he was a player with Sporting at the same time as me.

“I still remember a lot of people there and they remember me so I am looking forward to meeting everyone again.

“Playing a good team like Sporting Lisbon can help us so much in our preparation for the new season.”
