Barkley wins October award

6 November 2012

Owls loan ace Ross Barkley has been voted as the October Player of the Month.

Barkley claimed over 50 per cent of the vote from supporters via the official website, as recognition of a fine month for the youngster.

The midfielder was an ever-present throughout October and earned plenty of plaudits in the final game of the month as Wednesday comfortably fended off Ipswich at Portman Road, winning 3-0.

The 18-year-old scored twice in Suffock, the first in the opening minute before giving the Owls a cushion with a crisp half volley after the break.

And his good form has continued into November as Barkley helped the Owls claim back to back league victories by scoring his third goal in two games against Peterborough at Hillsborough.

Jay Bothroyd finished second in the poll with 14 per cent and Michail Antonio makes up the top three having attracted 13 per cent of the vote.
