Jones post-Peterborough

3 November 2012

Dave Jones says that Wednesday have played better and lost this season following the hard-fought win over Peterborough on Saturday.

Second half goals from Ross Barkley and Miguel Llera put the Owls on the road to victory and Jones’ side held out for the points despite George Boyd hauling Posh back in the game late on.

Jones said: “It’s a win, a bit of a dull game, but it’s a win and I will take that every time.

“We have played better than that and lost earlier in the season and it wasn’t one of our best performances but sometimes you need the scrappy wins and I will take it.

“The first half was really lacklustre and we raised the tempo after the game. Like most teams, we are at our best when we play at a high tempo.

“But I don’t want to be negative about the performance because there were a lot of positives out there.

“The young lads in the middle of the park did really well and Jose Semedo was immense.”

Jones issued an injury update on Paul Corrie, who was withdrawn early in the game with an ankle injury:

“He had a clash with one of their lads and I think he just caught the lad’s ankle.

“He couldn’t carry on, which was a shame for Paul. His ankle has swelled up so we’ll let the swelling go down and take a look at it from there.”
