Nothing to fear

27 November 2012

Dave Jones has called for his players to take a streak of confidence into tonight’s clash with Watford at Hillsborough.

The Owls slipped into the bottom three following Saturday’s home defeat to Leicester but the manager insists there is sufficient quality in the ranks to trigger a climb up the table.

He said: “I think the players are good enough to get themselves out of it.

“But they have to realise that. It can turn all of a sudden. You have to make it turn. You can’t feel sorry for yourself.

“They’re a great group to work with, but they have to realise they’re better than where they are at the moment. I think some of them don’t believe that enough.

“In some of the games we should have got better results, that’s the positive side, the negative is that they have to believe in themselves more.”

The Hornets arrive in S6 in decent form but Jones says the Owls should fear no one in the Championship.

He added: “Yes, Watford is a big game but they all are in the Championship and they all are when you are at a club as big as Sheffield Wednesday.

“We have shown that we can match almost anyone in this division.

“It’s important that we all stick together because there is nothing productive to be gained from anything else.

“The crowd was good on Saturday, keeping behind the players, trying to help them along, and that is what they need. But players have a responsibility to get the fans going as well.

“We are all in this together and the only way we will get out of it is by staying together.”
