Full Force

Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones has praised his side after their 3-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday.

Jones has said the Owls hit Ipswich with full force at Portman Road as two goals from Ross Barkley and a late Michail Antonio strike sealed an impressive win.

Speaking after the game, Jones said: “I’ve been saying a result like that had been coming and it arrived today.

“The results had not been matching the performances but today it has and all credit to them. Ipswich have come up against us when we were at full force.

“We didn’t deserve to lose at Blackburn in midweek but we could sense it was beginning to turn for us.

“I’m pleased that I am discussing what went right for us rather than what didn’t.”

Everton loanee Barkley was an impressive figure in the Owls engine room but the Wednesday boss believes there were a number of strong performances at Portman Road today and explained:

“Ross has been playing like that since he arrived here and he will get stronger and stronger. The difference today was that he scored two goals and that’s what everyone will talk about.

“But there were others out there as well who deserve the same credit. Paul Corry is still learning his trade at this level and he will get stronger, I have no doubt.

“Semedo’s experience was evident in the middle and he kept the two youngsters in check. Antonio is still young but we have a young side – a side full of a ability so it’s frustrating when you come away from games having performed but not got the result.

“Today we got what we wanted but we have a huge game next weekend against Peterborough where we will be looking for more of the same.”
