Owls open learning centre

8 October 2012

Children at a local primary school were given a surprise this week when two feathered friends flew in for the opening of their state-of-the-art learning facility.

Club mascots Ozzie and Barney Owl made the short trip to Hillsborough Primary School and were given the honour of cutting the ribbon for the new Foundation Unit.

The purpose built learning zone has been transformed from old traditional classrooms into a new open-plan area specifically with the education of nursery and S2 children in mind.

Teachers at the school had a huge input into the design of the Unit, which was funded by the local authority, and focused on making it a fun and interactive area where the young children will enjoy learning.

As well as cutting the ribbon, Ozzie and Barney stuck around to accompany the kids as they took their first tour of their new classroom and joined them in testing out the new facilities.

Head teacher at Hillsborough Primary, Angela Lant said it was wonderful to have Ozzie and Barney on hand for the opening ceremony.

“It was a very special day for the teachers, parents, pupils and everyone involved with the school as the unit was officially opened for use.”

“It also was wonderful to have the SWFC mascots on hand to share the moment, the kids were thrilled - it really made their day!”
