Michail Antonio was disappointed to taste defeat for the first time with Wednesday but believes the Owls will hit back and respond in the right manner.

A 2-1 reverse against Palace on Saturday saw Wednesday’s incredible unbeaten run - which dated back to February – come to an end but Antonio expects nothing less than a positive response from his team mates.

The attacking midfielder said: “I hadn’t experienced losing since I came to Sheffield Wednesday and I don’t want to again for a long time. There’s no reason why we can’t go on another run because we have the players here capable of doing that.

“We don’t play this weekend because of the international break but we’ll be working hard over that period to come back stronger against Brighton.

“It will be a hard game but we’ll go there believing we can get the three points and get back to winning ways, which is what I’m used to at this club.”

Without question Antonio has the tools to trouble any side on his day in the Championship with his pace, trickery and finishing ability.

The former Reading man feels he is beginning to show the kind of form that prompted Dave Jones to sign the winger over the summer.

The 22-year-old became a fans’ favourite in S6 on loan last season and, having scored two goals in six appearances so far this term, Antonio feels his best is yet to come.

He added: “I think I started the season a bit slowly but I feel I’m starting to get back to the form I showed last season

“I feel I am starting to return to my old ways and beginning to do the things I was doing last season.”
