The Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s were defeated 2-1 by a strong Derby County side on Saturday at Middlewood Road.
The Rams went in 1-0 up at the break before Matt Fletcher equalised five minutes after the restart.
The Owls’ equaliser came courtesy of a fine piece of build-up play from Hayden White who gathered possession from inside his own 18-yard box before motoring upfield to tee up Fletcher who applied the finishing touch.
But the visitors edged back in front on 65 minutes, leaving development coach Lee Bullen disappointed with the result but happy with the performance.
He said: “After such a disappointing performance against Crewe, we wanted to a see a response from the lads and that’s exactly what we got.
“We came up against a very strong Derby side who fielded five or six players whom you would associate with their first team – the likes of Nathan Tyson who are very experienced.
“It was always going to be a tough game but I’m delighted with the performance of each and every individual.
“The goal was superbly taken from Matt but the work in the build-up from Hayden was outstanding.
“The players will continue to learn which is what the Development Squad is all about.”
