Ability Counts run ends

26 April 2013

Sheffield Wednesday Ability Count’s run in the disability FA Cup finally came to an end this week with a penalty shootout defeat to Boston Pilgrim’s in the Northern Final at Holmes Park, headquarters of the Leicestershire FA.

Gavin Foster opened the scoring for the Owls in the first half before Boston struck right at the last with a late leveller to take the tie into extra time.

Wednesday then suffered heartache in extra time, with Brad Turner and Chris Senior – both of whom had excelled during the game – missing from 12 yards.

Everyone at SWAC would like to wish Boston the best of luck in the final against Plymouth Pilgrims’ Ability Counts, who triumphed in the Southern Area Final.

SWAC would also like to thank the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA for their support throughout the competition.

Over 40 players from the Ability Counts Programme will be rewarded with the opportunity to play on the Hillsborough pitch as a thank you for their efforts.

Coach Paul Crossley said: “I’m proud of the lads and what they achieved, penalties are a lottery and we lost, but we will come back fighting next year.”
